Be A Responsible Firearm Owner
Securing Your Firearm
Secure storage is the #1 way to help prevent firearm accidents, thefts and misuse, and plays an important role in suicide prevention.
Legal ownership of firearms is a Constitutional right – one that also comes with very real responsibilities. Many people own guns for self and family protection, but it’s important to remember that keeping your family safe doesn’t stop with bringing a gun into your home. Protecting your family also means doing what you need to do so a loaded gun isn’t picked up by a child, stolen by criminals or accessible by an at-risk person.
If there’s one thing all the data shows again and again, it’s that safe storage of firearms works. In the past two decades since Project ChildSafe launched, we’ve seen the number of fatal firearm accidents drop to historic lows.
But there’s more we can do. Firearm accidents are preventable, and when gun owners take a few simple steps to secure firearms safely, you play a direct role in making your home, your neighborhood and your community safer.
We’ve compiled a library of resources to help. Whether you’re thinking about buying your first gun, or your family has owned guns for generations, we hope you’ll use and share these tools.
