Outdoor Sportsman Group Donates More Than $100,000 to National Shooting Sports Foundation Firearms Safety Initiative – Project ChildSafe
DENVER – Outdoor Sportsman Group, in conjunction with the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), recently concluded its first annual SHOT Show® New Product Premiere and has donated $102,271 to the foundation’s Project ChildSafe initiative.
Project ChildSafe is a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation actively promoting firearms safety and education in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The program is dedicated to promoting responsible firearm handling and storage through the distribution of safety education messages and free firearm safety kits.
The SHOT Show New Product Premiere served as a virtual destination for consumers seeking comprehensive, detailed and up-to-date information on products normally introduced during the NSSF’s annual trade show. The SHOT Show New Product Premiere was a multimedia, first-of-its-kind review on the latest new products and technology in the hunting/shooting space and was showcased for the first time on network television. Consumers were able to tune into Outdoor Channel and Sportsman Channel each night for new product reviews traditionally limited to searching industry websites and social media outlets for product reviews.
“Project ChildSafe is a safety and education initiative that all gun owners and citizens should embrace,” Outdoor Sportsman Group Publishing Chief Operating Officer Michael Carney said. “Project ChildSafe has proven to deliver meaningful scale and impact, and Outdoor Sportsman Group is proud to be able to present the NSSF with a check for $102,271 as a demonstration of our commitment to help promote and fund this critical program NSSF has pioneered and been so successful with.”
“NSSF and the firearm industry are extremely grateful for this extraordinary donation by Outdoor Sportsman Group,” NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi said. “This support will help NSSF further expand the important work of Project ChildSafe to help reduce firearm accidents, thefts and misuse.”
The NSSF’s Project ChildSafe promotes the following, and more, key practices for safe firearms use and storage:
- Keep all firearms locked in a safe place, away from children and other unauthorized persons, when not in use.
- Store ammunition under lock and key, separately from firearms.
- Read and understand the owner’s manual that came with your firearm.
- Treat every firearm as if it were loaded
- Keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction
- Keep fingers off the trigger
- Keep the firearm unloaded when not in use
